Reflection on the year

During this year I have learned a lot in this class. I learned how to make a wallet design and the steps of making it. I learned how to design HTML webpages, Do sketch-up designs and create a water pump using garbage/recycled resources.  This class has been very fun this year and I'm glad I got to show my creativity in my projects. One thing that I liked about this class was that there was no homework, so that was nice! One negative thing that I did not really like about this class was how long some of the projects took. I feel like if they were shorter then the class would've gone by faster. Overall the year was really fun and I am glad its come to an end!

Natural Disasters Sketch-up Design

I decided to make a tetrahedron for a natural disaster shelter because it would be really strong and hold a lot of people. I also made it so it can be portable so people can transport it/ bring it where ever they go.

 Natural Disasters

  • I dislike when I see people's homes after natural disasters because it makes me sad for them and their families.
  • I find it hard to see people's homes after a natural disaster and see it destroyed in shambles. Many natural disasters destroy people's homes. Such as: tornadoes, volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, fires and more.
  • The number one disaster where people were mostly killed was in storms and the second was extreme temperature from 1980-2010.
  • People are not living the way they should when their homes are destroyed.
  • The number one leading cause of death between 1980-2010 was from storms.
  • keywords: tornado, volcano, hurricane, earthquake, disasters, sad, hurt, angry, upset, rebuild, loved ones, death, loss, grief, house, family.
  • PreventionWeb, Ready are orginazations that help with natural disasters and give information about them.

Creativity and Innonvation

Don’t you hate it when?
I hate it when I see sick people in hospitals
I dislike when people are mean
I dislike when people crack their knuckles
I find it difficult to see people's homes after natural disasters  (5)
I wish people weren't so rude sometimes
I think people should be nice
I wonder how people survive natural disasters
I like it when I see people helping others
 I really like food
I find it easy to be around people
I wish the world was a better/nicer place
I think it is cool when people help others
I think it is nice to help the community
I like seeing a smile on a person's face
I like making people smile
I like to help others
I think the world would benefit from shelters
I think that the homeless people should get more food
I wonder what animals think sometimes
I don't like when things aren't organized
I dislike when things are messy
I like when things are done right
I like soccer
I like when things are to the point
I wonder how people live their daily lives
I wonder how people can be cruel to animals
I wish the world wasn't polluted
I dislike when people are annoying
I don't like when people think that they are right about everything

I find it easy to color
I find it difficult to do hard puzzles
I find it hard to believe that people don't care about school
I find it difficult to see people get hurt
I find it easy to be around people
I find it easy to shop
I find it difficult in geometry

I like driving
I like when people care
I like when people are kind
I love children
I like to babysit
I like animals
I like dogs better than cats
I hate it when it is too cold
I hate it when I see sick people
I hate it when people use disabled (fitting rooms..etc) when they’re not disabled   (2)

I like it when it is nice out
I dislike it when it is 90 degrees out and I have a soccer game
I dislike it when there is dead fish in the lake
I dislike when people make fun of others

I dislike when places are not handicap accessible

 PROBLEM STATEMENTS
(1) Often when it is dark it is scary to get the mail because I am scared of someone being out there and taking me so I just wait until the morning. Studies show that more than 800,000 children get abducted each year.
(2) I often see people use disabled (parking spots, fitting rooms) when they're not disabled. I think that it is rude and not nice when someone disabled could benefit from it.
(3) I get upset when I order stuff online it doesn't fit and takes too long to be delivered.
(4) I dislike when there is a line in bathrooms and when people have to wait

Good vs Bad design

Here is my good and bad designs that I found. The good design I found at my house and the bad design I found online. A walker is a good design because it helps people walk and is part of a simple machine. A nuclear bomb is a bad design because it causes death and destruction.

Deep Dive

I think that their idea of the shopping cart that they built was clever in it's own ways but I think some of the ideas could be modified. I liked the design/look of the shopping cart was cool but I don't think the baskets would work because what would happen if you needed to put more things in the baskets? There is only a certain amount of room in the baskets and I think that there would not be enough room for everything if someone is grocery shopping. For example, if someone needed to put a turkey in their basket with a 24 pack of water, it would be heavy and would not hold a lot. Those are some of the things I would change about the cart design!

HTML on Codeacademy

We have been working on Codeacademy for HTML formatting. During the lessons I earned some achieving badges. As shown below:

I thought that Codeacademy.com was a good website to learn about HTML. It was cool to see how HTML is so different from regular writing.

Left Brain vs Right Brain

I am more of a left brained person rather than right brained. I took a 10 minute test and this is what my results showed:

Left Brain Right Brain
55% 45%

You are more left-brained than right-brained. Your left brain controls the right side of your body. In addition to being known as left-brained, you are also known as a critical thinker who uses logic and sense to collect information. You are able to retain this information through the use of numbers, words, and symbols. You usually only see parts of the "whole" picture, but this is what guides you step-by-step in a logical manner to your conclusion. Concise words, numerical and written formulas and technological systems are often forms of expression for you. Some occupations usually held by a left-brained person include a lab scientist, banker, judge, lawyer, mathematician, librarian, and skating judge.

Your complete evaluation follows below:

Your left brain/right brain percentage was calculated by combining the individual scores of each half's sub-categories. They are as follows:
Your Left Brain Percentages
48% Sequential (Your most dominant characteristic)
  43% Linear
  27% Reality-based
  17% Symbolic
  9% Logical
7% Verbal (Your least dominant characteristic)

Your Right Brain Percentages
29% Fantasy-oriented (Your most dominant characteristic)
  28% Concrete
  25% Nonverbal
  24% Intuitive
  17% Random
6% Holistic (Your least dominant characteristic)

Wallet Activity

The 10 steps during the wallet activity:

During the wallet activity we had to design a wallet for our partner's needs and wants. For the first we activity we had to interview our partner and design a wallet that would suit our partners needs.  In the second activity we got to consult with our partner to see what the did and didn't want in their wallet. The third and fourth activity we had to meet the goals and wishes of our partner and insights of what the NEEDS are in their wallet design. In the fifth step we sketched 5 ways to meet our partners needs. My partner wanted a wallet that had storage for cards, and ID and a phone easy access holder on the outside of the wallet. For step 6 and 7 my partner gave me feedback on what she liked/needed to be improved. On step 8,I designed the wallet out of duct tape. For step 9 my partner evaluated my wallet and told me what worked. She liked the size, shape and the wristlet on it. She also told me what can be improved: more card holders, an ID pocket and a place for a phone. One idea that she gave me was to put the phone pocket/holder on the outside of the wallet for easy access.

This is what I created for my partner and she gave me feedback about what needed to be improved and what worked about it.

I think that a good education system involves an understanding teacher and a student willing to learn. I also think that teachers should have more trust in their students. Also, for a good education system teachers and students should cooperate more about when tests and quizzes should be because on some nights students have a  lot of homework and don't want to have to study for 3 tests the next day. Those are some reasons how I think an education system would be more successful.
